5/22/08 Meet Arthur! Arthur was born on St. Patrick's day and is 9 weeks old. He is one of Mimi's kittens and is a male seal point. We should tell you that our Mom, Mimi, tested positive for something called FIV. The kittens have had their preliminary FIV test and have tested positive. However, this positive testing may still be a false result and another test will be required at 6 months of age to confirm that they are, in fact, FIV positive. Because Purrs Abound is committed to these kittens and their placement into loving homes, we will pay for the retest when the kittens are 6 months old. Please don't overlook us because of this. NOTE FROM THE DIRECTORS: PLEASE review the links provided to learn more about FIV. It is a highly misunderstood virus and VERY difficult to transmit. Cats and kittens with FIV can easily live with other cats as long as proper introductions are made. Positive results up to 6 months of age can result from the Mother's antibodies remaining in the kitten's blood and many kittens will eventually test negative by 6 months of age. Chances are great that our kittens will have long, happy, fun-filled lives. Please review FIV as well as FIV Rumors KITTEN POLICY, Kittens under 6 Months of Age must be adopted with a littermate. Exceptions are only made if the adopter has another kitten OR has a companion cat in the home of the adopter to act as a playmate. NO kittens under 6 Months of Age will be adopted to a home with children under the age of 5 or to a home with a dog unless the dog has been previously exposed to cats and proven to be cat-friendly. Purrs Abound reserves the right to review each adoption on a case by case basis AND reserves the right to deny any applicant without explanation.
