INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED

Please note the following:

We match available cats to applicants based on our experience and the individual needs of the cat. As such, being approved to adopt does NOT automatically guarantee that you will be approved to adopt your cat of interest.  We also reserve the right to deny any application for any reason without explanation.

We also ask that, before you submit an application, you take a careful look at what you think the next 10-15 years will bring in your life.  The cat that you want to adopt is a living, breathing creature who will develop a deep attachment to you, looking to you for love, security and trust.  While none of us can guarantee what our future holds, we can look at the different situations that might require us to give our pet up: divorce, change of jobs and/or living conditions, family allergies, health (the cat’s or yours) or behavioral issues.  Please search within yourself and ask whether you will be able to make a lifetime commitment to the pet you would like to bring into your life.  We are searching for homes where the cat you adopt will be a true forever family member.  If you cannot make that commitment to the best of your ability and in good conscience, please reconsider submitting your application.

Kitten Policy:

Kittens under the age of 6 months must be adopted with a litter mate or into a home where the adopter already has a kitten or other young cat for companionship.

NO kittens under 6 Months of Age will be adopted to a home with children under the age of 5 or to a home with a dog unless the dog has been previously exposed to cats and proven to be cat-friendly.

We accept application materials from our online form, by email, fax, or snail mail. Adoption fees can be paid by PayPal to Purrsabound@aol.com or by check mailed to:

INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED

Once a completed application and vet reference have been received, we will send an email confirming receipt of your information. At that time, we then begin contacting your references and once that has been completed we follow up with a phone interview. The process usually takes a week to complete depending on availability of your references.

A completed application that will be processed consists of:

1) The adoption application filled out in its entirety

2) Our vet reference form which is filled out and signed by your veterinarian

* VISITATION ARRANGEMENTS ARE ONLY MADE AFTER BEING APPROVED *

As you visit the cats on our website, most are available for adoption while others have become permanent fosters and are eligible for sponsorship.  Each kitty is clearly marked as to their status.  Any help you can provide for our permanent cats would be most appreciated.  If, on the other hand, you are interested in providing a permanent home of your own to one or more of our available cats, please read below:

We take the adoption of our "purr guests" VERY seriously.  For that reason, you are asked to complete our Adoption Application providing us needed information.

We do not adopt to families with children under age 5.

Our adoption fees vary depending upon the age of the cat, whether the cat is a purebred, a purebred mix or a domestic kitty, whether the cat has special needs, etc.  Our general adoption fee for a domestic kitten start at $150.  We offer discounts for multiple cat adoptions as well as discounts to our senior citizen adopters.  Adoption fees are non-refundable .

Each of our foster kitties has received a routine veterinary exam and age-appropriate vaccines and have been spayed or neutered if age appropriate. All our cats and kittens have also tested negative for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) and Heartworms (HW).  We can NOT, however, guarantee the physical or emotional health of any cat that comes to us. Since the majority of our cats come from shelters their previous history and parentage is unknown, and the particular breed listed in their bio is our best guess based on various breed characteristics.

**** A visit with any of our cats is arranged only after an applicant has been approved to adopt ..

The kitties who come to us often bring with them emotional baggage from their prior experiences.  Some adjust almost immediately to their new homes while others may take weeks or even months.  For this reason, before you decide to adopt one of our "guests," please consider whether you will be able to commit to a minimum of 6 months for the cat to adjust.  Our volunteers are, of course, willing to counsel with you during the adjustment period and answer as many questions as you may have.

Purrs Abound adopts cats to families who live within Michigan and Ohio where we have directors and volunteers and w e will NOT ship cats by air
