ADOPTING A FRIEND
PLEASE READ BELOW FOR INFORMATION ABOUT ADOPTING AND OBTAINING AN APPLICATION
As you visit the cats on our website, most are available for adoption while others have become permanent fosters and are eligible for sponsorship. Each kitty is clearly marked as to their status. Any help you can provide for our permanent cats would be most appreciated. If, on the other hand, you are interested in providing a permanent home of your own to one or more of our available cats, please read below:
We take the adoption of our "purr guests" VERY seriously. For that reason, you are asked to complete our Adoption Application providing us with needed information. Please email PurrPaws53@aol.com to request an adoption application.
Our general adoption fee starts at $150 for kittens and Siamese under the age of 7 years. However, the adoption fee may vary for known purebred Siamese or other purebred cats. Adoption fees are non-refundable.
Each of our foster kitties has received a routine veterinary exam and age-appropriate vaccines and have been spayed or neutered. They have also tested negative for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). If our routine exam shows any signs of a physical or emotional issue, we will disclose this information to a potential adopter. We can NOT, however, guarantee the physical or emotional health of any cat that comes to us. Since the majority of our cats come from shelters their previous history and parentage is unknown, and the particular breed listed in their bio is our best guess based on various breed characteristics.
A visit with any of our cats is arranged only after an applicant has been approved to adopt.
The kitties who come to us often bring with them emotional baggage from their prior experiences. Some adjust almost immediately to their new homes while others may take weeks or even months. For this reason, before you decide to adopt one of our "guests," please consider whether you will be able to commit to a minimum of 6 months for the cat to adjust. Our volunteers are, of course, willing to counsel with you during the adjustment period and answer as many questions as you may have.
Purrs Abound prefers to adopt cats to families who live within Michigan and Ohio however, applications from areas outside Michigan and Ohio will be considered on a case by case basis. We will NOT ship cats by air. In most cases, we ask that adopters travel to meet their potential new companion at the foster's home. Exceptions will be made depending on individual circumstances. In those situations, the adopter will be asked to assist with the transport arrangements of their new pet.
